Dear Leena, this is a powerful and enlightening article that reminds us how much Christianity and Islam have in common—far more than people care to admit. Of the locations you mentioned below I have only been to Qana , the place of Jesus Christ’s miracle, filled me with a profound sense of reverence.
Thank you, Leena, for this beautiful reflection. In times like these when war seems to strip humanity of its memory of compassion, it is deeply moving to be reminded that our scriptures speak a language of reverence, mercy, and shared sanctity.
As a Lebanese , living through these painful days, I was especially touched by how you illuminated the places in our land where Jesus walked and where his presence is remembered. In the midst of destruction, it feels almost like a quiet whisper from history, that these lands were once touched by miracles, mercy, and faith.
Perhaps remembering this is itself a form of resistance against hatred, against forgetting, and against the illusion that our religions were ever meant to divide us.
Thank u for reminding us of the light that still lives within the story🙏🏻
Thank you for this essay Leena — a balm frankly at a time when Christians are denied access to Jesus’ burial place on the most sacred date on the Christian calendar, for the 1st time ever, under false pretenses. This, w/o a serious peep from all of Christendom. I have been equally shocked by the wanton closure of Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem for far longer, again w/o serious reaction. I cry for the loss of the Holy Land (including Leb and Jordan) as, until recently, the sacred grounds on which 3 beautiful monotheistic religions and traditions lived and flourished respectfully side by side.
Thank you for this enlightening article. I find such value in learning about what the Quran teaches about Jesus and Mary. 🩵
